Best 10 Things To Do In Bela Krajina Slovenia

Helpful Guide To Bela Krajina Slovenia

Bela Krajina (White Carniola) is one of the most beautiful places in Slovenia. It is located in the southeast of the country, close to the border with Croatia. The region is for the pristine, unspoiled nature and amazing landscapes. With its mountains, rivers, trees and rural areas, Bela Krajina Slovenia is a perfect destination to go if you want to relax.

Even though it is not highly developed, there are surprisingly many things to do there!

Things To Do In Bela Krajina Slovenia

Visiting Čebelarstvo Veselič- The World Of Honey

Čurile 4a 8330 Metlika

Getting to know the process of making the honey, learning about bees and their fascinating hierarchy is a great way to spend a day in Bela Krajina Slovenia.

Did you know that bees are communicating by… a dance? They are flying in different directions to show their colleagues the way to the nearest flowers. Sometimes they also communicate by the kiss that has the enzymes with the specific information. How awesome is that?

Another interesting fact is that the Queen and other bees are clones. They were identical at the beginning but their DNA changed because of the different… diet! The bees are choosing which one of them will be the queen. They are giving her the best food and the highest quality of products. She can live up to 5 years, whereas her sisters are dying after 6 months or less.

After learning all these fascinating things about bees, you can buy products made of honey in Čebelarstvo Veselič. Our personal favorite is medica, a delicious honey liquor.

Degustating Local Beer At Vizir Brewery

Lokve 10 b, 8340 Črnomelj

Vizir is one of the oldest breweries in Slovenia. They produce different kinds of beer, mostly Ales.

If you book your visit to this Carniola Brewery in advance, you can have a degustation at the factory. The owner is really friendly and speaks English very well, so you won’t have any problems with communication.

Be sure to try SuperStar beer, it’s delicious! Even if you are not visiting Bela Krajina Slovenia, you can buy it in many shops and bars in the country, especially those in Ljubljana.

The food of Bela Krajina Slovenia is really delicious. It is based on meat, potatoes, and bread. If you are a vegetarian, don’t worry- you can have tasty trout caught in the Kolpa river.

There are two restaurants worth recommending at White Carniola. The first is Gostilna Veselič with a friendly, charismatic owner who will tell you awesome stories about the region.

The other great restaurant is Gostilna Muller in Črnomelj.

We’ve been dining in both of these places and enjoyed the traditional Slovenian food every time we went there.

Kayaking On The Kolpa River

It is probably one of the best things to do in Bela Krajina Slovenia! Kayaking on the peaceful Kolpa river is very relaxing.

You will hear nothing but the singing of birds and the quiet rush of the water…

Trying Lavender Chocolate & Liquors At Berryshka Factory

Obrh 17a, Dolenjske Toplice 8350

berryshka

It is not located in the Bela Krajina region but very close to it.

Berryshka is a producer of famous chocolates and liquors. All their products are awesome but the thing we liked the most are chocolate shot glasses.

You can drink your favorite alcohol and then eat your ‘glass’. How awesome is that?

Rafting On The Kolpa River

Something for adventure lovers. Kolpa River is a natural border between Croatia and Slovenia. Rafting is not difficult there but it’s still quite challenging!

We had so much fun there! The river is very clear, so in the summer you can just jump into the water to cool off. The tour is really picturesque, you are rafting surrounded by the beautiful, unspoiled nature.

Seeing Military Plane DC-3

Otok, 8330 Metlika

plane

It’s quite surprising to see the big military plane in the middle of nowhere. It is situated in the fields and it’s worth seeing especially if you are traveling to Bela Krajina with kids.

Hiking To The Springs Of The Krupa River

krupa

Springs of the Krupa river are one of the best places to see in Bela Krajina. They are located in a small village and most tourists simply don’t know about them.

We loved this place! It was so peaceful and quiet, that we could spend hours, just sitting and relaxing there.

Visiting Gradac Castle

You are not visiting Bela Krajina to see the museums or the monuments. Gradac castle is an exception. It is really old (from 13th century!) and quite… scary. It was abandoned years ago, so you can see the old furniture and equipment through the broken windows.

If you are into the photography, you can take pretty awesome shots there. This scenery can’t be compared to anything else in White Carniola.

  1. Hi Karolina! I’ve just got back from Bela Krajina but only had a couple of days. Wish I had had more time to see the things you did. I would have loved to have tried those lavender chocolates and found out more about the beekeeping. I did get to go rafting though and find out more about the olive oils! Will have to go back – I love Slovenia :)
