Jakarta is the capital of Indonesia and it is no different than other big Asian cities- it is colourful, interesting and… crowded. We don’t like spending too much time in big agglomerations, we prefer small islands far away from hustle and bustle of the big cities. So visiting Jakarta, Bangkok or Hanoi for a few days was enough for us!
In this post we are sharing with you best travel tips for visiting Jakarta. We hope they will be useful for you and help you get around this huge and crowded city.
Best travel tips for visiting Jakarta:
Try local food.
Indonesian food is really delicious and cheap! If you are visiting Jakarta, you need to try it. If you don’t know where to find the best restaurant, check out TripAdvisor to search for the best place to eat close to your hotel. You can also visit one of the local night markets. It is a great choice for every one that enjoy experiencing the local culture.
Our favourite Indonesian food are Nasi Goreng (fried rice) and Gorengan (everything that is fried). Fried food may not be the most healthy choice, but it is really delicious!
2. Visit rooftop bar.
Jakarta is a big city, full of high building and sky scrappers. It looks amazing from the above!
Visit one of the Jakarta’s rooftop bars to take amazing aerial photos of the city. It is a great idea for a relaxing evening after the whole day of sightseeing.
3. Choose the right place to stay.
With the population of more than 8 million people and the area of more than 670 km2, Jakarta has many hotels and hostels to choose from. Our favourite place to stay in the capital of Indonesia is Hotel Menara Peninsula. You can check it out here.
If you are budget traveler, you can choose cheaper accommodation like for example Couchsurfing.
4. Visit the historic old city. Jakarta beautiful places.
Historic city, also known as Kota Tua or Oud Batavia, is the most beautiful place in Jakarta. It is the remaining of the first Dutch settlement in Indonesia. Old city has an amazing architecture, old buildings, awesome restaurants and unique atmosphere that can’t be compared to anything else.
Kota Tua is really great and it is must- see for everyone who is visiting Jakarta.
5. Buy local SIM card.
Jakarta is a huge and crowded city, so it may be sometimes difficult for you to get around. If you buy a local SIM card, it would solve all your problems.
