From Brussels airport to Charleroi airport with sightseeing

We had only 12 hours in Brussels. We wanted to see as much as possible and don’t miss our flight back to Poland :). So how to get from Brussels airport to Charleroi ?

We arrived to Brussels airport (BRU) at 12.15 p.m. and our next flight was at 9 p.m. from Charleroi airport (CRL).

Even though we didn’t have much time, we managed to see a lot. Below you can find our route and everything that you need to spend 12 hours in Brussels efficiently :).

1. Buy a ticket at Brussels airport and go to bus 21.

There are many machines at Brussels airport. Unfortunatelly, they are not in English… It took us few minutes to buy tickets but we manages to do it :).

You can pay by coins or by card. Ticket price is 4 euro per person.

Go to bus 21.

2. Leave on the last stop (Luxembourg)

It will take about half hour to get to the destination. Leave at Luxembourg stop, just in front of European Parliament. IMG_2515

3. Visit Parliament or go down Rue the Luxembourg

If you have a lot of time, you can visit Parliament. We were in hurry so we just go down the Luxembourg Street as on the map below.

4. Turn right into Marie van Bourgogne street. Then turn left into Rue Belliard.

5. Go to Park van Brussels

Here you can take some pictures and see locals jogging, talking and hanging out.

Now you are in tourist district. The second part of your route you can see below.

 6. Leave the park by left exit and see Palais Royal

We didn’t have time to go inside but Palace is really beautiful from outside. All we could do was making few pictures and go ahead :).

More infos about visiting Royal Palace, you can find here.

 7. Go straight, then turn into Rue de la Regence

Stop on Place Royal to make a picture of famous statue of Godfrey of Bouillon, Royal Museums of Fine Arts and Church of Saint Jacques-sur-Coundenberg.

8. Turn right into Rue de Ruysbroeck, then turn right into Boulevard de l’Empereur

Go slowly and make pictures of beautiful street of Brussels. You have a lot of time. You can stop to drink a coffee or eat delicious Belgium chocolate!

9. Pass Place de l’Arbertine and turn into Rue de Madeleine

We ate dinner at Madeleine Street. There are many good restaurants in there, so if you are tired of walking, you can relax for a while.

 10. Go straight until you reach Grand Place

This is the most famous Place in Brussels. And it’s really beautiful!

Full of people and charming monuments. Make as many pictures as you can :).

 11. Turn left into Rue de l’Etuve

On this street you will see famous Manneken Pis (the statue of pissing boy).

This is the most famous thing in Brussels and in our opinion it’s not impressive. It’ really small (length from the wrist to the elbow of your hand).

There are many delicious things at this street though. You can eat Belgium chocolate or waffle with fruits and cream.

 12. Go straight, down the Rue de Poincon

There won’t be so much to see now. You just need to walk and admire the beauty of Brussels 🙂

13. Turn right into Rue de la Roue, then turn left to the Avenue de Stalingrad

Go down the Avenue de Stalingrad until you get to the Gare du Midi. This is the end of walking and here you can catch a bus to the Charleroi Airport.

 14. Take bus to the Charleroi airport at Gare du Midi station

Airport buses are outside. If you can’t find it, you can ask someone at information desk.

Ticket price is 17 euro per person. You can pay only by cash. Trip will take around 40 minutes.

That’s it! We were at the airport at 6 p.m. so we still have 3 hours left. We could visit Parliament or Palace but we didn’t want to be late. It’s up to you whether you want to see more. If you have any questions, feel free to ask!

Have you even been in Brussels? Did you like it?

  1. This is great! Wish we'd had this perfect quick-visit guide a few years ago when we were there. Although, we were only in the city for 3 hours, so we would have either had to walk REALLY fast or cut a few things out 😀
