Where To Go For The Best Viewpoints In Phuket?

Phuket, the largest island in Thailand, sits among some of the most beautiful destinations in the world. Brimming with more than 30 white sandy beaches, tall palm trees, and bright blue seas, it’s not hard to see why this island attracts over 9 million tourists each year.

Whilst the flight duration isn’t particularly short, there’s so much you can do to pass the time: chatting with your travel buddies, watching movies, playing casino games on your phone or daydreaming out the window. You might even have the odd thought cross your mind, such as “Where can I play crazy time?” or “Did I lock the front door?”

If Phuket isn’t on your bucket list by now, it certainly should be. Here are some of the best viewpoints on the island for views like no other.

Karon Beach

Karon Beach is one of the longest beaches in Phuket, spanning 5km of crystal-like sand, which overlooks the sparkling Andaman Sea. Luckily, the beach’s northern end is usually deserted, making it the perfect viewpoint for visitors who want to take in the crystal clear waters.

If you enjoy keeping active whilst abroad, Karon Beach is great for windsurfing, banana boat rides, and even jet skiing. You can reach the beach via car, taxi, or bus.

Black Rock

Located in the south of Phuket, Black Rock features a large granite stone (hence the name) and is known for its outstanding views of the island in a seemingly remote location.

However, getting to Black Rock isn’t as easy as hopping on a minibus. You’ll need to hike up into the rainforest and follow the trail that leads to Nui Beach but rest assured, once you arrive, it will all be worth it.

Promthep Cape

Are you drawn to glowing sunsets? If so, Promthep Cape should be top of your list of viewpoints in Phuket, Thailand itinerary. Located not far from Nai Harn Beach, this landmark has been a popular meeting point for years for tourists that dream of getting the ultimate sunset photo.

Promthep Cape is slightly elevated, making it even easier to get a glimpse of the stunning mini islands nearby. Another popular landmark in Promthep Cape is the lighthouse which displays unique historical maritime artefacts.

The Big Buddha Viewpoint

The Big Buddha is one of Phuket’s biggest ‘Must Do’s’ for travellers worldwide and offers breathtaking views of the island. Reaching 45 metres tall and made from white marble, the statue is visible anywhere in the southern part of Phuket.

The Big Buddha promises glorious panoramic views of Chalong Bay, Phang Nga Bay and Kata Bay for those who genuinely want to see it all. Built in 2002, the statue is beautiful yet modest and can be accessed via a relatively easy hillside path opposite Barn Karn Resort on Patak Road in Karon Beach.

Ya Nui Beach

Tucked away in a cove between the famous Promthep Cape in the south of Phuket and Windmill Viewpoint, Ya Nui Beach is one of Phuket’s biggest treasures with incredible ocean views.

The beach is relatively tiny but still attracts visitors from far and wide who wish to participate in activities such as snorkelling, kayaking, and fishing. To get to Ya Nui Beach, you can either drive south from Nai Harn or drive a short distance north up the western side of Promthep.

Kata Noi

Kata Noi Beach is another popular location for hotels and breathtaking views of Phuket. It is located on a dead-end road and is one of Phuket’s smaller beaches, but it certainly delivers spectacular views.

Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed by calm waters, vibrant green jungle backdrops, and gleaming white sand. Kata Noi is located south of Kata Beach – to get there, keep going straight after The Boathouse in Kata Beach as the road veers to the left. There, you’ll be welcomed by the small but enchanting Kata Noi.

Laem Singh

Nestled between Kamala and Surin Beach, Laem Singh is another one of Phuket’s top locations for captivating views. This small yet secluded beach is accessible via a steep path where visitors will be greeted with a sense of privacy and exclusivity when compared to Phuket’s other beaches.

This hidden gem of Phuket contains breathtaking jungle views in addition to golden sand and crystal-clear waters that stretch for miles. If Laem Singh isn’t on your bucket list by now, you’re missing out.

Heaven Rooftop Restaurant

As the name suggests, Heaven Rooftop Restaurant offers residents of Phuket and tourists from far and wide a glimpse of just that: heaven. Offering breathtaking views of the Andaman Sea from the rooftop deck and main dining area, this restaurant allows you to enjoy a host of local seafood delicacies whilst soaking up stunning bay views of Kata Noi Beach, Kata Beach and Karon Beach.

If you’re not particularly drawn to the hustle and bustle of Promthep Cape to catch the ultimate sunset snap, Heaven Rooftop Restaurant is your next best bet.

Khao Rang

Rang Hill, or ‘Khao Rang’ is located in the centre of Phuket. It is most well-known for its restaurants, beautiful temple monkeys, and new viewpoint bridge. It’s not unusual to see monkeys here either, so be prepared if one of them catches you by surprise.

On the way up, many restaurants, such as Tunk Ka Cafe, Khao Rang Breeze and Phuket View, offer unique panoramic views of the island. Tunk Ka Cafe even has a ‘panoramic platform’ so that guests can make the most of their visit and enjoy the sunset scenes.

Overall, Khao Rang is a popular location. Don’t forget to check out the sitting Buddha of Wat Khao Rang on your way down too, for an extra treat!

Panwa

Panwa is a popular Phuket destination which offers 360-degree views of southern and eastern Phuket. Panwa Viewpoint, also known as Khao Khad Views Towers, is located on the way to Cape Panwa and is just as spectacular as you can imagine.

With a two-level view tower, here you’ll be greeted with views of Chalong Bay, Makham Bay, the Big Buddha and more. To get to Panwa, head towards Cape Panwa along Sakdidet Road, and after roughly 3km, you’ll see signs for Khao Khad Views Towers on your right.

Conclusion

Now that you have a list of the best viewpoints in Phuket, you can visit the island with confidence. From busy landmarks for sunset snaps to more remote locations, Phuket has something for everybody.
