The island is peaceful and tranquil. It’s great to go all year round and it’s a perfect idea for a Budapest day trip. If you are visiting Hungary in the winter, the picnic may be difficult to organize. However, walking around the island is just as romantic.

Szentendre is considered the most Mediterranean place in Hungary. We fell in love with this cute town! Located only 20 kilometers from Budapest, it’s famous from the handicrafts, beautiful monuments and interesting museums.

It’s one of the Budapest date ideas that you can have completely for free. There is no entrance fee to the Gellert Hill, so you can just climb up there with your date early in the morning or late in the afternoon.

You may be surprised that in the modern world, children are still working. Well, it’s not that weird when you take a look into history. It’s what is left from the (Hungarian) communist system where children were educated in the spirit of collectivist work.

Szechenyi Thermal Baths in Budapest

Not only is visiting the Széchenyi Bath one of the most relaxing rewards you can give yourself, but it’s also like taking a trip back in time. Built in 1913, the Széchenyi baths are the largest medicinal baths in Europe. The water is supplied by two thermal springs and includes sulfate, calcium, magnesium, bicarbonate and so many other things that have curative properties.

The waters are even said to help with degenerative joint illnesses, joint inflammation, as well as being a treatment for orthopedic and post-traumatic conditions.

Once you’re in, you’ll be able to walk through a maze of baths, pools, and people, in the search for finding the perfect spot for you.  It almost feels like you’re Goldilocks, constantly looking for a pool that has the perfect temperature and amount of people for you to feel comfortable.  It was quite different from the traditional ‘spa days’ we’re used to back home.

Although we were probably expecting a more luxurious experience, we ended up enjoying this bath quite a lot.  It’s a no-frills spa that leaves you rejuvenated and ready to conquer the day.

We had such a great time discovering this thermal bath.  It’s such an authentic experience, especially since it’s been a part of this city for such a long time.  Whether you go for therapeutic reasons, to relax or discover this Budapest tradition, the Szechenyi Thermal Baths will be one of the highlights of your trip to Hungary.

Gellert Baths in Budapest

The popular Gellert Baths in Budapest at Kelenhegyi út 4, are located on the Buda side of the city. Historic and beautiful, they’re a fan favorite with tourists, and soaking at this renowned hot springs spa is one of the top things to do in Budapest.

An Art Nouveau classic, the baths were opened in 1918 and were built to complement the attached Gellert Hotel. The baths are known mainly for their indoor pools. The main pool, especially, is breathtaking.

It feels like a liquid cathedral with its ornate carved columns, interior balconies of wrought iron, and curved glass ceiling overhead. An outdoor pool with an original wave machine dates back to the ’20s and there is also an outside area for relaxing.

Massages and other spa treatments are available as well. A regular admission ticket is 23 Euros, and the hours are from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m.

Where To Stay in Budapest?

It was perfectly equipped, spacious, and centrally located. We could easily walk to all the important tourist attractions, many Budapest Walking Tours starts nearby. The hotel is very romantic, it has a lovely garden in the courtyard (photo below). It’s very rare to find such a green oasis in the heart of the big city.

District V

When it comes to finding the best place to stay in Budapest, here are the things you should keep in mind. District V is considered as the tourist area, which means it’s close to the main attractions. That being said, it’s the best location to stay in Budapest.

District VI

The best area to stay in Budapest could also be the district VI if you’re thinking of something a bit more residential, therefore more local.

District VII

Another great option when it comes to finding the best area to stay in Budapest would be the district VII which is also known as the Jewish Quarter.  It’s a bit busier, but it’s also a great option if you’re planning on making the most of the nightlife in Budapest.

Outside the City Centre

When we got tired of walking around, we moved to one of the Budapest spa hotels, located on the outskirts of the city- Aquaworld Resort. It has one of the best water parks we have ever been to. We had so much fun there!

It’s definitely a perfect place to relax and unwind. They have a half board option, there are also restaurants inside the aquapark, so you don’t even need to leave the hotel to get anything you want.

How To Get Around Budapest?

Budapest is a big city, so the easiest and the cheapest way to get around is by using public transport.

You can also travel by car but be ready to pay high parking fees (coins only!) and waste time in the traffic jam.

The third option is using taxis Budapest. The oldest one is Fo Taxi but the one really worth recommending is Taxify. It works exactly like Uber (that doesn’t operate in Budapest as for July, 2019).

You can always catch the random taxi in Budapest. Make sure though to set up the price before the ride.

Depending on which option do you choose, the card is valid for 24h, 48h, 72h, 96h or even 120h.
