Top Reasons To Visit El Nido In The Philippines

The Philippines is made up of thousands of beautiful islands, and there are many locations people would urge you to put on your bucket list. However, one of the most wonderful destinations is certainly El Nido on Palawan Island. El Nido is a small beach town with a tremendous amount of character and stunning beauty.

The thing is, getting to El Nido is not all that simple. You can get transport from capital Manila to El Nido, which is the easiest way to get there. Chances are you’re not going straight to El Nido, though, and a five or six hour car ride is probably going to be part of the journey from anywhere else.

That said, it is 100% worth it. Book a trip to El Nido. Here are the top reasons you won’t regret it.

El Nido Has The Best Island Hopping Tours In The World

No matter which island destination you visit, anywhere in the world, you will likely find island-hopping day trips. You will get on a boat and be taken from one small island to the next. It’s a gorgeous experience. However, El Nido offers arguably the best island hopping in the world. This is for a number of reasons.

Firstly, every island you visit is idyllic, and you will get a bit of time to relax in paradise at each. But the lagoons are the main attraction and for good reason. The so-called “small lagoon” has become a famous Instagram spot, and a stunning photo is what you’ll get out of it.

The “big lagoon” is the real kicker though. The calm waters make it easy to row your own canoe and, more importantly, snorkel. Snorkeling in some destinations is disappointing, but between your boat and the big lagoon, you will experience a whole new world. You don’t need to be a good swimmer – a life jacket will keep you floating and you simply need to stick your head under.

El Nido Is A Charming Town

The islands around El Nido are stunning. What about El Nido itself? The town of El Nido is truly charming. It is tiny, but that makes it all the more endearing. You will get to know each restaurant and bar intimately, along with the owners and staff. Everything happens slowly, but you won’t mind. In fact, you’ll be happy to spend time relaxing at a restaurant table by the sea, as your food gets to you in its own time!

There are many stores selling typical tourist fares, like t-shirts and bags, but they don’t harass you or pressure you to get your cash out. Buy a t-shirt or don’t – no one is going to get you into a tither about it.

I recommend staying in the town at an Airbnb. There are tourist resorts around El Nido, but nothing beats looking from your balcony onto a tiny yet vibrant alleyway.

Sunsets At Las Cabanas Beach Are Among The World’s Best

El Nido has slithers of beaches that serve as harbors for boats. However, there are amazing beaches just nearby. They’re well worth the trip (and you can rent a scooter and take yourself there if you’re adventurous). Las Cabanas Beach is particularly worth a visit, if only for the sunset.

Don’t get me wrong, the beach itself is one of the best you’ll find, but the sunsets are simply spectacular. I assumed that they’d be like any other sunset in a beautiful location. I did not expect to see colors I hadn’t known could exist naturally! The shades change as the sun goes lower and lower. It’s so beautiful you’ll put down your phone, knowing you can’t capture it in a photo and want to drink it all in at the moment.

The Sea At El Nido Is Crystal Clear

The seawater in El Nido is crystal clear. Seriously. It could be 10 meters deep and you will still be able to see the bottom of the sea.

Tips For Visiting El Nido

Get To Know The Art Cafe

It’s the center of El Nido, the only ‘civilized’ place there. Art Cafe is a restaurant, shop and also a tourist center where you can buy bus, ferry or plane tickets.

Useful info: Art Cafe is the only place in El Nido where you can pay by credit card.

Book Island Hopping Tours

It’s the most popular way of exploring El Nido Palawan. There are four tours available: A, B, C, and D. The best tours are A and C.

One tour takes one day and costs about $30 per person including dinner, flippers and snorkeling equipment.

Tours can be booked in every hotel and also at the Art Cafe.

Useful info: Be sure to go for a tour when the weather is nice!

Rent A Canoe If The Weather Is Good

It’s possible to canoe to the nearest island and relax on the beach completely alone!
