Why It’s Worth To Visit Liberec? Top Things To Do In Liberec Czechia

Let’s face it- Prague is awesome but it’s also very touristy. We have been to the capital of Czech Republic so many times that we needed to start searching for less known places in this country. Last month we have been to Karlovy Vary and we thought that next, we should visit Liberec, another town in the Northern Czech Republic. It would be a perfect ending for our road trip through Austria and Slovenia.

We were right! Liberec is a beautiful city with lots of tourist attractions. It’s situated only 1-hour driving from the capital which makes it a perfect weekend gateway from Prague.

The city is called The Manchester of Bohemia because of its strong textile industry.

Town Hall

náměstí Doktora Edvarda Beneše 1/1, 460 01 Liberec

Your Liberec sightseeing won’t be complete without taking a photo of the Town Hall. It was built in 19th and is located in the heart of Old Town. There are only a few days a year where the Town Hall is open to the public, so you will probably only see it from the outside.

Fountain of Neptune

The fountain was standing in the center of Liberec throughout the ages. In the 19th century, the wooden one was replaced by the new, made of stone.

The Fountain of Neptune is located in front of the Town Hall, so it is very easy to find for all the tourists visiting Liberec.

Liberec Castle

Even though the castle in Liberec is not open to the public, it is still worth a visit to see it from the outside. You can walk there from the center of Old Town- it won’t take more than 10 minutes. Zámek is really big- it was impossible to take a photo of the entire building!

Going to Jested is one of the top Liberec things to do. It is a mountain with a big tower on the top. You can either hike up there or take a cable car. The views from the top are really awesome! If the visibility is good, you can even see Poland and Germany from Jested! It is also a popular spot for skiing in the winter.

Where To Stay In Liberec?

We have been staying at Imperial Pytloun. It is a four-star hotel located in the heart of the city, within the walking distance to the Town Hall, IQ Landia and all the other important tourist attractions of Liberec.

Even though the hotel is situated in a historical building, it is quite new. All the rooms are available to book from 2015. There is parking available right across the street for all the guests. WiFi is fast and stable. There’s always a lot going on in the hotel. When we were there we’ve been attending the jazz concert, which was great!

If you wonder which Liberec hotel to choose, Grand Pytloun may be a goof option.

Rooms

Imperial Pytloun has two kinds of rooms to choose from: standard and design. The first group meets all the criteria of four-star hotel, like having a comfy bed or access to the fast WiFi.

The second part is the design rooms. There are more than amazing! Each of them is completely different, it has a unique style and interior. We have been staying at On the Wave designed by Ondřej Kamenický. Room 301 was inspired by the moves of waves, so all the contours were kind of rippling. The bathroom wall has a crescent shape and we had an awesome wooden slide from the bed.

You can choose the room you want to stay in before the arrival or it will be assigned to you randomly. To be honest, we spent more than an hour in search of the design we liked the most. All of the rooms were so tempting! There are even Fifity shades of Grey room at Imperial Liberec. How awesome is that?

Breakfast

Love the breakfast at Imperial Pytloun Hotel! First of all- the food is delicious and everybody will find something fro themselves there. You have some basics like bread, pastries, bacon, and eggs but there are also extraordinary things like freshly squeezed juices. Secondly- the restaurant has huge windows, so you can watch the street while having breakfast.

Last but not least- the seats are really comfy and the overall atmosphere of Zlatý Kohout is great. We’ve been there for dinner a few times and it was great.

Where To Eat In Liberec?

Saiko restaurant

Saiko is a true gem of Liberec. It’s different from all the other restaurants in the town. You can eat there delicious Asian food, more specifically meals from Japanese and Thai cuisines. They are really delicious! You can see the short video from our dinner at Saiko restaurant below.

Restaurace Pytloun

Pytloun is the best restaurant to try authentic Czech cuisine. Everything made of pork, beef, and chicken plus famous bread dumplings.

If you like eating hearty, big meals that is the place for you!

Restaurace Oro

If you like Mediterranean food, you’ll love Oro. It has a short but very good menu. In the summer, you can sit outside on the terrace and enjoy the nice view of the city. It is one of the coolest places in Liberec.
