4 Of The Best Golf Courses In Europe

When referring to golf courses, Europe has some of the best. The continent offers a wide variety of courses with different settings. From large, open courses in Scotland to naturally formed courses in Norway, keen golfers can test themselves in the different conditions of the courses listed.

We?ve created a list of our favorite European golf courses with the best views and landscapes that?ll make you immediately want to plan your next golfing holiday.

St Andrews Links, Scotland

The Home of Golf, St Andrews, is one of the best experiences you can have. St Andrews needs little introduction and is a course that all golfers dream of playing on.

The club offers plenty of options that cater to your budget, with seven courses available in and around the town. The only course that requires a handicap is the Old Course. By far the most iconic one on the planet, you can instantly feel how unique the setting is the moment you step foot. Many famous Open winners have also played here, like Nick Faldo in 1990 and Tiger Woods in 2000.

Fontainebleau, France

Not only is this one of the best courses in Europe but is also highly regarded worldwide. The Fontainebleau golf course can be found within the Fontainebleau forest, not far from the town on the ancient imperial hunting grounds.

The narrow fairways of the course combined with the borders of trees create a challenging yet pleasant experience. What makes it so attractive is its dense bloom of ferns, lilacs, and brooms, alongside fine sand bunkers.

Monte Rei, le Portugal

Nestled within the foothills of the Eastern Algarve, the Monte Rei golf course is an enviable place to play, providing a much-needed sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of daily life.

All of the holes on the award-winning course are specially designed to blend into the natural canvas of the landscape. Each one is a challenge for players of all handicaps and abilities, which is what attracts people from all over the world to the club.

If you?re planning on staying in accommodation at the country club, you?ll want to arrange some Faro airport transfers so that you arrive effortlessly with all of your golf luggage.

Lofoten Links, Norvège

Whilst being a relatively new course, having opened in 2015, Lofoten Links is nothing short of spectacular. The golf course uses the ocean as a natural hazard on some of the holes and uses sandy beaches as natural bunkers.

Lofoten Links is located on the island of Gimsøya, where the sun rarely sets between the months of May and July. The club is open 24 hours a day at this time of year, during the midnight sun period, which means you can play at whatever time suits you. Better still, if you plan to attend from August to mid-October, you can see the Northern Lights whilst playing.
