Chiang Mai Zoo may not be the most famous tourist attractions in the city. If you are traveling to Thailand with kids or you simply want to hand-feed animals, that’s definitely an interesting place to go. In this post, you will find all the information about Chiang Mai zoo aquarium, including ways to get there, ticket prices, tips, and more.

How To Get To Chiang Mai Zoo?

The zoo is situated in the foothills of Doi Suthep mountain. It’s a good idea to combine visiting the zoo with a trip to the famous Doi Suthep temple.

By Taxi

It’s probably the cheapest option. You will pay about 50 THB ($1.3) for a shared taxi one-way ride. Cars are leaving from Chang Pauk Gate.

You can also travel by the standard taxi with a meter that you can catch anywhere on the street. Always discuss the price before starting a ride to make sure you won’t be ripped off.

By Scooter / Car

Motorbikes and cars are available to rent everywhere in Chiang Mai. The prices for one day starts from 200 THB ($6.5) for a scooter.

Chiang Mai Zoo Private Tour

That’s definitely the most convenient option. You will be picked up from the hotel, spend time in the zoo and then driven back home. Check out the tour ici.

Chiang Mai Zoo Ticket Price

All the tickets can be purchased online with a discount.

Standard Chiang Mai zoo entrance fee (for zoo only):

  • 150 THB ($5) for adults
  • 70 THB ($2.30) kids 91 – 135cm / 3ft – 4.43ft high
  • Free for kids under 90cm / 2.95ft

Chiang Mai Zoo Aquarium ticket price:

  • 180 THB ($6) for adults
  • 120 THB ($4) for kids 91 – 135cm / 3ft – 4.43ft high
  • Free for kids under 90cm / 2.95ft

Panda House ticket price:

  • 100 THB ($3.25) for adults
  • 50 THB ($1.60) for kids 91 – 135cm / 3ft – 4.43ft high
  • Free for kids under 90cm / 2.95ft

In total, if you want to visit the zoo, the aquarium, and the Panda House you will pay 430 THB ($14) for an adult et 240 THB ($8) for a kid if you want to go to the zoo and buy tickets there. 

It’s cheaper if you buy tickets online, you will save at least a few bucks.

Zoo Chiang Mai is pretty big, so you may get really tired by walking around. If you want, you can use some of the transport options.

Transportation within a zoo

Tram:

  • 30 THB ($1) for adults
  • 20 THB ($0.65) for kids 91 – 135cm / 3ft – 4.43ft high
  • Free for kids under 90cm / 2.95ft

The ticket is valid for one round only.

Golf Car:

  • 350 THB ($11.50) for the first hour
  • 300 THB ($10) for every next hour

 What To Expect?

Chiang Mai zoo is really big, so you will need at least 4-5 hours to see everything.

One of the biggest attractions in the zoo are pandas. Here is the photo we have with them:

This photo was taken in Chiang Mai zoo but it’s fake. You can’t really hold pandas there. We had the green screen behind us and for the small fee, they added pandas around us in the Photoshop.

You can, however, hand-feed other animals in the zoo, such as giraffes and hippos.

Chiang Mai Zoo opening hours

The zoo is open every day from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

It’s good to visit it early, as it won’t be that crowded. Plus, most attractions are being closed at 4 p.m, so you may miss a lot if you arrive too late.

Snow Dome

If you have enough time, you may consider visiting the Snow Dome that is located within the zoo. Apart from the snow, there is not much to do there. If you have never seen it, then it may be really fun for you to go there. However, if the snow doesn’t make you excited, then skip it with no regret.
